ART

La Sainte-Chapelle 13th Century

We have looked at various art works and architecture in one of CTC lectures this week..

It was interesting to see how the artists created scenes that would help people to meditate on God...

Giotto di Bondone (c. 1267 – January 8, 1337), The Mourning of Christ, Cappella degli Scrovegni.

As people thought about the art it would act as a 'gateway' into God's presence where they could contemplate and experience God....

I wonder if creation functions similarly to these artworks? If we slowed down to take in the scenery I think we would find it's beauty and is majestic in proportion. When I slow down enough to take in the beauty of the earth it communicates to me the greatness of the artist who painted it.

Good point Nathan.

The 'visual arts' can be used to convey something about God, much like creation. However they can only do that as 'general revelation' (Romans 1:20).

But the 'word' arts - like song, poetry, prose, speaking - are able to communicate particular things about God and the Gospel.
