Victorian Holiday

We are having a great time with Nathan's parents on our holiday in Victoria, on Vancouver Island! We've done so much walking around downtown, I am feeling exhausted. The weather has been so warm and sunny.

We went on a tour of Parliament House, had drinks on the Verandah at the Empress Hotel, took Daniel to the animal farm at Beacon Park, had lunch at the beach at Oak Bay, went on a ferry tour of the harbour, and walked along the harbour numerous times.

Daniel has been doing very well. I think he is changing to one nap a day, but he isn't there yet so he's having to sleep a lot at night to keep up with all the energy he's losing to heat and new experiences.

Tomorrow morning Lyn & Bruce are off to Seattle on a catamaran, and we catch the ferry back to Vancouver.

Daniel

Daniel turned 1 on Thursday. Here are a few pics of present unwrapping (although Neen & Pa have bought a lot more presents with them!), and some of Daniel outside our place yesterday afternoon. We are having gorgeous weather. There is also a picture of Daniel eating porridge. A thoroughly kinesthetic experience!

Summer Update

It's July already - next week is Daniel's first birthday! This year has been so full (in a good way), and so fast. Nathan's parents flew into Calgary today, and we are anticipating their company next Saturday. We've been pointing at our family photo for the last few months with Daniel, so he is used to hearing their names. Probably too young for recognition, but you never know - he can sometimes point to the correct body part, although he thinks his belly is at chest-level, and the default location for most body parts is his mouth! Daniel knows which toy is the bus, car, mower, and can give appropriate sound effects. Last week he started walking, and is getting better every day. He as also started sleeping much better at night. Last night he slept from 8-6.30am straight (although that could be due to his 4 immunizations yesterday).
On the study front, Nathan is hard at work writing assignments (even as I type). Some nights he's been up past midnight, but he has a tight schedule. Hopefully the majority will be completed by the end of next week.
I've started applying for jobs, and I need to do that a little more seriously. I'm looking at administrative positions. I'm hoping to start in the next month, although I haven't got anything organised for Daniel's care yet.
